Work Permit
A work permit is a permit applied by foreign nationals who wish to work in Turkey. Today, many foreign citizens want to work in Turkey in order to make the clearest use of Turkey’s advantages. At this point, people must have a work permit in order to work in Turkey. Otherwise it would be a legal offence for people working in Turkey without a work permit. You are required to apply for a work permit to work in Turkey, to have the right to work legally in Turkey, to take advantage of the benefits offered by Turkey and to work in Turkey. How do you get a work permit to work in Turkey? Let’s examine it together.
How to Obtain A Work Permit in Turkey?
There are 2 different ways people can apply for work permits in Turkey. Students are granted temporary residence permits. Foreign nationals who have a residence permit valid for at least 6 months other than the temporary residence permit granted to the students can apply directly to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Applications are made online via e-government (a website in which you can do work permit process). This application is called a work permit application from within the country. Residence permits can be obtained from the immigration authorities. Just as with the work permit, applications for the residence permit can be made online.
Persons who do not have a valid residence permit for at least 6 months may apply to the Turkish embassy or Consulate of their country of residence. Applications are made online.
Relationship Between Work Permit and Residence Permit
We talked about two different ways to get a work permit. At this point, one requires a residence permit while the other does not require a residence permit. People who obtain a work permit without a residence permit are engaged in research on whether they need to obtain a residence permit. Accordingly, during the period in which the work permit is valid, persons are considered to have a residence permit. With the end of the work permit, the residence permit of the persons will be finished. People who do not extend their work permit after the end and who continue to stay in Turkey will be in violation of their residence permit.
Types of Work Permits
There are different types of work permits. These species are as follows.
First Domestic Application This is the type of application made by foreigners who are in Turkey and have a residence permit for at least 6 months.
First Abroad Application: In cases where foreigners do not have a residence permit, they should apply to the foreign representative office of the Republic of Turkey in their country.
International Protection Application: It is the type of application made by foreigners who are under international protection in Turkey and who are applying for international protection.
Application for Temporary Protection: They are applications made by foreign nationals of Syrian nationality who are under temporary protection in Turkey.
Application for Extension: An extension application is being made for the extension of the work permit, which was previously received from the ministry and is ongoing. 2 months before the end of the previous work permit must be applied.
